Hot Honey: Sweet Heat Kick
A simple yet fiery condiment that combines the natural sweetness of honey with a bold kick of chili heat. Perfect for drizzling over savory and sweet dishes.
Ingredients
- 1 cup honey
- 1-2 tablespoons red pepper flakes adjust to taste
- 1/4 teaspoon salt optional
Instructions
- Combine honey, red pepper flakes, and optional salt in a small saucepan.
- Heat over low-medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the mixture is warm and the chili flakes have infused their flavor, about 5-7 minutes. Do not let the honey boil intensely.
- Remove from heat and let it cool slightly. This allows the flavors to meld further.
- For a smoother sauce, strain the honey through a fine-mesh sieve to remove the flakes. For more texture and a more intense heat, leave the flakes in.
- Transfer the hot honey to a clean, airtight jar or squeeze bottle. Store at room temperature for up to several months.
Notes
Adjust the amount of red pepper flakes to suit your preferred spice level. For an extra layer of flavor, consider adding a garlic clove or a slice of fresh chili to the honey while it infuses, removing it before bottling. Store in an airtight container at room temperature.
