Homemade Turmeric Tamarind Jamu
Jamu, a cherished Indonesian herbal tonic, blends the vibrant goodness of turmeric, the tangy kick of tamarind, and the warmth of ginger. This ancient drink is celebrated for its holistic benefits, from enhancing skin radiance to aiding digestion and boosting overall well-being.
Ingredients
- 200 g fresh turmeric peeled and sliced
- 50 g fresh ginger peeled and sliced
- 50 g tamarind pulp seedless
- 1 liter water
- 50 g palm sugar or honey to taste
Instructions
- Combine sliced turmeric, ginger, tamarind pulp, and water in a saucepan. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 15-20 minutes.
- Remove from heat and let it cool slightly.
- Strain the mixture through a fine-mesh sieve or cheesecloth, pressing out all the liquid. Discard solids.
- Stir in palm sugar or honey and a pinch of salt until dissolved. Adjust sweetness as desired.
- Serve warm or chill completely before serving.
Notes
Adjust honey or palm sugar to your taste. For a spicier kick, add more ginger. Jamu can be enjoyed warm or chilled. Store in an airtight bottle in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
