Ingredients

  • 1.5 lbs chicken wings (drumettes and flats) pat dry
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 0.5 tsp smoked paprika
  • 0.5 tsp salt
  • 0.25 tsp black pepper
  • 0.25 cup sweet chili sauce for Candy Pepper Glaze (optional)
  • 1 tbsp honey for Candy Pepper Glaze (optional)
  • 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar for Candy Pepper Glaze (optional)
  • 0.5 tsp red pepper flakes for Candy Pepper Glaze (optional

Instructions

  • Pat chicken wings thoroughly dry with paper towels. This is crucial for crispiness.
  • In a large bowl, toss the dried wings with olive oil, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper until each wing is evenly coated.
  • Preheat your air fryer to 400°F (200°C) for 5 minutes. If your air fryer doesn't have a preheat function, run it empty at 400°F for 5 minutes.
  • Arrange the seasoned chicken wings in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Ensure there is enough space between wings for air to circulate; cook in batches if needed.
  • Air fry for 25-30 minutes, flipping the wings halfway through, until they are golden brown, crispy, and the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C).
  • For Candy Pepper Wings (optional): While wings are cooking, combine sweet chili sauce, honey, apple cider vinegar, and red pepper flakes in a small saucepan. Bring to a simmer over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the sauce slightly thickens (about 3-5 minutes).
  • Once the wings are cooked, you can either serve them plain with your favorite dipping sauce or transfer them to a bowl and toss them with the warm Candy Pepper Glaze.
  • Serve your crispy air fryer chicken wings hot and enjoy!

Notes

For best results, always pat the chicken wings very dry before seasoning. Do not overcrowd your air fryer basket; cook in batches if necessary to ensure even crisping. If using a dual-basket air fryer, you can cook a batch of chips or fries in the other basket simultaneously. Adjust red pepper flakes in the Candy Pepper Glaze to your desired spice level. Serve immediately for maximum crispness.
