Ingredients

  • 1 gallon cool water
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup molasses
  • 1 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger

Instructions

  • Mix all ingredients thoroughly in a large pitcher or container. Stir until the sugar and molasses are fully dissolved. Chill the Switchel in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours before serving to allow flavors to meld and for it to be properly cold. Serve over ice.

Notes

Chill well before serving for optimal refreshment. Adjust the amount of sugar/molasses and ginger to suit your taste. For a sparkling version, substitute still water with sparkling water. Switchel can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week.
