Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef lean
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp tapioca flour
  • 2 tbsp ice water
  • 1 large egg lightly beaten
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 0.5 tsp black pepper freshly ground
  • 0.5 tsp baking powder
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 2 tbsp gochujang Korean chili paste
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 tsp ginger freshly grated
  • 2 medium scallions finely chopped
  • 0.5 small onion finely grated

Instructions

  • In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, all-purpose flour, tapioca flour, ice water, egg, salt, black pepper, baking powder, soy sauce, sesame oil, and gochujang. Mix gently with your hands until just combined, being careful not to overmix.
  • Add the minced garlic, grated ginger, finely chopped scallions, and grated onion to the beef mixture. Mix again until all ingredients are evenly distributed.
  • Divide the mixture into 8-10 equal portions and flatten each into a patty, about 1/2 inch thick.
  • Heat a large skillet over medium heat with 1 tablespoon of cooking oil. Place the patties in the hot skillet, ensuring not to overcrowd it. Cook in batches if necessary.
  • Cook for 4-6 minutes per side, or until the patties are beautifully browned and cooked through to your desired doneness.
  • Remove the cooked patties from the skillet and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain any excess oil. Serve immediately and enjoy your delicious Spicy Korean Beef Patties!

Notes

Serve these patties with steamed rice, lettuce wraps, or over a noodle salad. For extra spice, increase the amount of gochujang. You can also add finely diced bell peppers or carrots to the mixture for added vegetables and crunch.
