Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons gochujang Korean chili paste
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce low-sodium preferred
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil toasted
  • 1 tablespoon honey or maple syrup
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar unseasoned
  • 1 clove garlic minced (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon ginger freshly grated (optional)

Instructions

  • In a small mixing bowl, combine the gochujang, soy sauce, toasted sesame oil, honey, and rice vinegar.
  • If using, stir in the minced garlic and freshly grated ginger until well incorporated.
  • Mix all ingredients thoroughly with a whisk or spoon until the sauce is smooth and all components are fully blended.
  • Taste and adjust seasonings as desired. For example, add more honey for sweetness, more gochujang for spice, or more vinegar for tang.
  • Serve immediately or store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week.

Notes

For a thicker sauce, reduce honey slightly or add a pinch of cornstarch slurry (if heating). Adjust spice level by adding more or less gochujang. Great as a marinade for chicken, pork, or tofu, a dressing for salads, or a dipping sauce for dumplings and vegetables.
