Ingredients

  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 0.5 cup warm water
  • 2.25 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 0.25 cup vegetable oil
  • 3.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  • In a large bowl, whisk together warm milk, warm water, active dry yeast, and granulated sugar. Let stand for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  • Stir in the vegetable oil. Gradually add half of the all-purpose flour and the salt, mixing until combined.
  • Continue adding the remaining flour gradually, mixing until a shaggy dough forms. Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface.
  • Knead the dough for 8-10 minutes, or until it becomes smooth and elastic. It should spring back when lightly poked.
  • Lightly grease a large bowl. Place the dough in the bowl, turning once to coat. Cover with plastic wrap or a clean towel.
  • Let the dough rise in a warm, draft-free place for 60-90 minutes, or until it has doubled in size.
  • Gently punch down the dough to release air. It is now ready to be shaped and baked according to your desired recipe.

Notes

For best results, ensure your milk and water mixture is warm (105-115°F / 40-46°C) to properly activate the yeast. Knead the dough until it is smooth, elastic, and passes the windowpane test. The rising time can vary based on ambient temperature; aim for the dough to double in size. This dough is excellent for various uses including bread loaves, pizza crusts, and dinner rolls.
