Ingredients

  • 2 lb boneless skinless chicken thighs or breasts
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce low sodium
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes optional
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch mixed with 2 tbsp cold water (cornstarch slurry)
  • 2 tbsp fresh cilantro chopped
  • 1 tbsp sesame seeds for garnish

Instructions

  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the minced garlic, honey, soy sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, and red pepper flakes (if using). Set aside.
  • Heat olive oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the chicken pieces and cook until browned on all sides and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes. Remove chicken from the skillet and set aside.
  • Pour the whisked sauce mixture into the same skillet. Bring to a gentle simmer, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the pan.
  • Stir in the cornstarch slurry. Cook, stirring constantly, until the sauce thickens and becomes glossy, about 1-2 minutes.
  • Return the cooked chicken to the skillet, tossing to coat evenly with the thickened sauce.
  • Garnish with fresh chopped cilantro and sesame seeds before serving.

Notes

For extra crispiness, broil for the last 2-3 minutes. Serve with steamed rice, quinoa, or roasted vegetables. You can substitute chicken thighs for breasts for a juicier result. Adjust chili flakes for desired heat.
