Ingredients

  • 113 g unsalted butter softened
  • 100 g granulated sugar
  • 165 g light brown sugar packed
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 180 g all-purpose flour
  • 0.5 tsp baking soda
  • 0.25 tsp salt
  • 170 g chocolate chips semi-sweet

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 190°C (375°F). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  • In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and light brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until well combined.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  • Stir in the chocolate chips until evenly distributed.
  • Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto the prepared baking sheets, leaving space between them. For uniform cookies, use a cookie scoop.
  • Bake for 9-11 minutes, or until the edges are golden and the centers are still slightly soft.
  • Let cool on the baking sheets for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

For extra chewiness, use a mix of semi-sweet and milk chocolate chips. Chilling the dough for at least 30 minutes (or up to 24 hours) deepens the flavor and prevents spreading. Don't overbake; the edges should be golden, and the centers slightly soft. Let them cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before moving to a wire rack.
