Ube Bread Pudding Hack
A viral and incredibly easy dessert hack that transforms basic bread into a rich, sweet, and vibrant ube (purple yam) pudding. Perfect for a quick treat with a taste of Filipino delight.
Ingredients
- 8 slices stale or fresh white bread
- 5 tbsp milk any kind
- 2.5 tbsp ube halaya purple yam jam
- 0.25 tsp ube extract or to taste
Instructions
- Place 8 slices of bread in a large mixing bowl, tearing them into smaller pieces.
- Pour 5 tablespoons of milk over the bread, allowing it to soak slightly.
- Add 2 ½ tablespoons of ube halaya and ¼ teaspoon (or a few drops) of ube extract to the bowl.
- Using your hands or a sturdy fork, mash all the ingredients together until the bread is fully soaked and forms a thick, purple batter.
- Transfer the mixture into a microwave-safe bowl or small baking dish.
- Microwave on high for 1-2 minutes until heated through and slightly firm, or bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 15-20 minutes until the top is lightly golden and set.
- Serve warm as is, or with additional toppings like grated cheese, condensed milk, or a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
Notes
For a richer flavor, toast the bread slightly before mashing. You can bake this in an oven at 350°F (175°C) for 15-20 minutes until golden, or microwave individual portions for 1-2 minutes until heated through. Garnish with grated cheese or a drizzle of condensed milk for an extra indulgent touch. Adjust ube extract for desired color and flavor intensity.
