Swicy Pistachio Halloumi Bites
A vibrant and flavorful dish featuring crispy halloumi cheese coated in a sweet and spicy pistachio crust, finished with a tangy lime glaze. Perfect as an appetizer or side.
Ingredients
- 225 g halloumi cheese cut into thick sticks
- 2 eggs beaten
- 0.5 cup all-purpose flour
- 0.5 cup panko breadcrumbs
- 0.25 cup pistachios finely crushed
- 0.5 tsp smoked paprika
- 0.25 tsp cayenne pepper adjust to taste
- 0.5 tsp sugar
- 0.25 tsp salt
- 0.125 tsp black pepper
- 3-4 tbsp vegetable oil for frying
- 2 tbsp lime juice freshly squeezed
- 1 tbsp honey or maple syrup
- 1 tsp cornstarch
- 2 tbsp water
- Pinch red pepper flakes optional
Instructions
- Prepare the Halloumi Coating: In a shallow dish, combine flour, crushed pistachios, panko breadcrumbs, smoked paprika, cayenne pepper, sugar, salt, and black pepper. Mix well.
- Dredge Halloumi: Dip each halloumi stick first into the beaten eggs, ensuring it's fully coated, then transfer to the pistachio mixture. Press firmly to ensure a thick, even coating on all sides.
- Pan-Fry: Heat vegetable oil in a large non-stick skillet over medium heat. Once hot, carefully place the coated halloumi sticks in a single layer, ensuring not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for 2-3 minutes per side, or until golden brown and crispy.
- Make the Glaze: While halloumi fries, combine lime juice, honey, cornstarch, water, and red pepper flakes (if using) in a small saucepan. Whisk continuously over medium-low heat until the glaze thickens slightly, about 2-3 minutes.
- Serve: Drizzle the warm lime glaze over the crispy halloumi sticks immediately. Serve hot and enjoy!
Notes
For an even crispier texture, air fry at 375°F (190°C) for 10-12 minutes, flipping halfway. Serve with a dollop of Greek yogurt or a sprinkle of fresh cilantro for added freshness.
