Ingredients

  • 0.25 cup gochujang Korean chili paste
  • 3 tablespoons brown sugar packed
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce low-sodium preferred
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil toasted
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger grated
  • 0.25 cup water or chicken/vegetable broth

Instructions

  • In a small saucepan, combine gochujang, brown sugar, soy sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, minced garlic, grated ginger, and water.
  • Whisk all ingredients together until well combined and the brown sugar has dissolved.
  • Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring the mixture to a gentle simmer, stirring occasionally.
  • Reduce the heat to low and continue to simmer for 5-7 minutes, or until the sauce slightly thickens to your desired consistency.
  • Remove from heat and let the sauce cool completely. It will thicken further as it cools.
  • Transfer the Swicy Gochujang sauce to an airtight container and store in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.

Notes

This sauce can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks. Adjust brown sugar for more sweetness or a pinch of red pepper flakes for extra heat. Excellent as a glaze for chicken wings, a dipping sauce for spring rolls, or mixed into noodles.
