Sweet Chili Halloumi Fry
A quick and easy recipe combining salty halloumi cheese with the sweet and spicy kick of chili sauce, creating a delightful fusion dish. Perfect as an appetizer, side, or light main.
Ingredients
- 250 g halloumi cheese sliced into 1/2-inch thick pieces
- 1/4 cup sweet chili sauce
- 1/2 tsp chili flakes optional
- 1 tbsp rapeseed oil or other high smoke point oil
- 2 tbsp fresh cilantro chopped
Instructions
- Slice the halloumi cheese into 1/2-inch thick pieces.
- In a bowl, coat the sliced halloumi evenly with sweet chili sauce and chili flakes (if using).
- Marinate the halloumi for at least 15 minutes, or up to 24 hours in the refrigerator for deeper flavor.
- Heat rapeseed oil in a large non-stick frying pan over medium-high heat until shimmering.
- Carefully place the marinated halloumi slices in the hot pan, ensuring not to overcrowd. Cook in batches if necessary.
- Fry for 3-4 minutes per side, or until golden brown and slightly crispy.
- Remove the cooked halloumi from the pan and serve immediately.
- Garnish with fresh cilantro, if desired.
Notes
For best flavor, marinate for at least 30 minutes. Serve with rice, salad, or in a wrap. Add sliced bell peppers or onions to the pan for extra veggies and cook them alongside the halloumi.
