Strawberry Ginger Switchel
A refreshing, healthy, and hydrating non-alcoholic beverage made with fresh strawberries, ginger, apple cider vinegar, and a natural sweetener. Perfect for rehydrating and boosting electrolytes on a hot day.
Ingredients
- 2 cup fresh strawberries hulled and sliced
- 1 inch fresh ginger peeled and thinly sliced
- 0.5 cup apple cider vinegar with the mother (or regular)
- 0.25 cup maple syrup or honey (adjust to taste)
- 4 cup filtered water
- 1 cup ice for serving
Instructions
- Combine the sliced strawberries, thinly sliced ginger, apple cider vinegar, maple syrup (or honey), and filtered water in a large pitcher or jar.
- Stir all the ingredients thoroughly until the sweetener is dissolved.
- Cover the pitcher or jar and refrigerate for at least 2-4 hours, or preferably overnight, to allow the flavors to fully meld.
- Strain the switchel through a fine-mesh sieve into another clean pitcher or jar, pressing on the solids with the back of a spoon to extract as much liquid as possible. Discard the solids.
- Taste the switchel and adjust sweetness if desired, adding more maple syrup if needed.
- Serve chilled over ice, garnished with a few fresh strawberry slices or ginger curls.
Notes
For variations, try different fruits like blueberries or peaches. Adjust the amount of sweetener to your preference. Serve extra cold over plenty of ice, and garnish with fresh mint leaves or a lemon slice for an extra touch of freshness. Using apple cider vinegar 'with the mother' adds beneficial probiotics to your drink.
