Steamed Fish with Ginger & Soy
A light and flavorful Asian-inspired steamed fish dish, featuring delicate white fish infused with aromatic ginger, savory soy sauce, and earthy shiitake mushrooms. This healthy recipe is quick to prepare and perfect for a weeknight dinner.
Ingredients
- 1.5 lb white fish fillets such as cod or halibut
- 2 inch fresh ginger grated
- 3 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tsp sesame oil
- 4 oz shiitake mushrooms thinly sliced
- 2 stalks green onions thinly sliced
Instructions
- Pat fish fillets dry with paper towels.
- Place the fish fillets in a heatproof dish or directly into a steamer basket.
- Evenly top the fish with the grated fresh ginger.
- Drizzle the soy sauce and sesame oil over the fish.
- Arrange the sliced shiitake mushrooms around and on top of the fish.
- Bring water in your steamer pot to a boil. Carefully place the steamer basket with the fish over the boiling water.
- Steam for 8-12 minutes, or until the fish is opaque and flakes easily with a fork. Cooking time will vary depending on the thickness of the fish.
- Carefully remove the fish from the steamer. Garnish with thinly sliced green onions before serving hot.
Notes
Use fresh, firm white fish fillets like cod, halibut, or snapper for best results. Do not overcook the fish; it should be just cooked through and flaky. Serve immediately with steamed rice or a side of greens. For an extra kick, add a thinly sliced red chili.
