Spicy Sweet Topokki with Dongwon Sauce
A delightful Korean street food featuring chewy rice cakes coated in Dongwon's signature spicy and sweet gochujang-based sauce, delivering a balanced flavor with a mellow umami finish.
Ingredients
- 300 g Korean rice cakes soaked in warm water
- 3 cups water or anchovy broth
- 100 g Dongwon Spicy & Sweet Topokki Sauce
- 50 g Korean fish cakes sliced
- 2 stalks green onions chopped
- 1 tsp sesame seeds for garnish
Instructions
- Soak rice cakes in warm water for 10-15 minutes until softened, then drain well.
- In a medium pot, combine water or anchovy broth and Dongwon Spicy & Sweet Topokki Sauce. Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat.
- Add the softened rice cakes and sliced fish cakes to the simmering sauce. Stir gently to ensure all ingredients are coated.
- Cook for 8-10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens to your desired consistency and the rice cakes are chewy and tender.
- Stir in about half of the chopped green onions into the pot.
- Serve the Topokki hot, garnished with the remaining fresh green onions and a sprinkle of sesame seeds.
Notes
For a richer broth, use anchovy-kelp broth. Add hard-boiled eggs, ramen noodles, or chopped vegetables like cabbage for a more substantial meal. Adjust sweetness or spice by adding a pinch of sugar or a touch more gochujang, if desired.
