Spicy Honey Harissa Salmon
This dish is a vibrant fusion of sweet and spicy, bringing the aromatic flavors of North Africa to your table with minimal effort. Succulent salmon fillets are coated in a rich harissa-honey glaze, then baked with fragrant garlic and shallots for an irresistible weeknight meal.
Ingredients
- 2 medium salmon fillets skin-on or off
- 2 tablespoons harissa paste mild or hot
- 1 tablespoon honey or maple syrup
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons olive oil divided
- 2 cloves garlic minced
- 1 small shallot thinly sliced
- 1 tablespoon fresh parsley chopped (for garnish
- 1 wedge lemon for serving (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper for easy cleanup.
- In a small bowl, combine the harissa paste, honey, ground cumin, smoked paprika, and salt. Mix well to form a smooth paste.
- Pat the salmon fillets dry with paper towels. This helps the rub adhere better and ensures crispy skin if left on. Brush or spread the harissa-honey mixture evenly over the top and sides of the salmon fillets.
- In a small, oven-safe skillet or directly on the prepared baking sheet, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sliced shallot and sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant and slightly softened. Remove from heat.
- Place the prepared salmon fillets on the baking sheet alongside the garlic and shallots. Drizzle the remaining 1 tablespoon of olive oil over the salmon.
- Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the salmon is cooked through and flakes easily with a fork. Cooking time may vary depending on the thickness of your fillets.
- Garnish with fresh chopped parsley and serve immediately with lemon wedges, if desired. Enjoy your flavorful Spicy Honey Harissa Salmon!
Notes
Serve this delicious salmon with a side of couscous, quinoa, roasted vegetables, or a fresh green salad. For an extra citrusy kick, squeeze fresh lemon juice over the cooked salmon. You can adjust the spiciness by using more or less harissa paste.
