Spicy Gochujang Butter Rice
A simple, yet incredibly flavorful Korean-inspired rice dish, combining the richness of butter with the spicy, savory kick of gochujang and fresh green onions. It's a perfect quick side or light meal.
Ingredients
- 1 tbsp unsalted butter
- 2 tbsp green onions sliced
- 0.5 tbsp gochujang Korean chili paste
- 1 cup cooked white rice preferably day-old
Instructions
- 1. Melt the unsalted butter in a non-stick pan or skillet over medium heat. Allow it to cook until it is lightly browned and smells nutty, about 1-2 minutes. Be careful not to burn it. 2. Add the sliced green onions to the pan and stir-fry for 1 minute until they begin to soften and become fragrant. 3. Lower the heat to low. Add the gochujang to the pan. Use the back of your spoon or spatula to mash the gochujang and mix it thoroughly with the browned butter and green onions. Cook for about 30 seconds to allow the flavors to meld. 4. Add the cooked white rice to the pan. Mix everything together very well, ensuring that the rice is evenly coated with the vibrant gochujang butter mixture. 5. Continue to heat through for another 2-3 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the rice is warm throughout. Serve immediately, garnished with any reserved fresh green onions.
Notes
For the best texture, use day-old cooked white rice. Freshly cooked rice can be too sticky. Adjust the amount of gochujang to suit your personal spice preference. For an extra boost of flavor and a complete meal, top with a fried egg, a sprinkle of sesame seeds, or a side of kimchi.
