Savory Marinated Pork Belly
A flavorful and tender marinated pork belly, inspired by Asian cuisine, perfect for a satisfying main dish. It features succulent pork infused with a savory marinade and often served with a complementary sauce.
Ingredients
- 500 g pork belly sliced 1/4-inch thick
- 1 tsp salt
- 0.5 tsp black pepper
- 1 tbsp garlic powder
- 2 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tbsp sesame oil
- 1 large egg beaten
- 2 tbsp honey
- 1 tbsp rice vinegar
- 1 tsp fresh ginger grated
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine the sliced pork belly with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, soy sauce, and sesame oil. Mix well to ensure all pieces are coated.
- Add the beaten egg to the pork belly mixture and mix thoroughly. Cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, or preferably 2-4 hours, to allow the flavors to meld.
- While the pork is marinating, prepare the sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together honey, rice vinegar, and grated fresh ginger. Set aside.
- Heat a large skillet or frying pan over medium-high heat. Add the marinated pork belly in a single layer, working in batches if necessary to avoid overcrowding the pan.
- Cook the pork belly for 4-6 minutes per side, or until golden brown and cooked through, with a crispy exterior. Adjust heat as needed to prevent burning.
- Once the pork belly is cooked, remove it from the pan and set aside. Carefully drain any excess fat from the pan, leaving about 1-2 tablespoons.
- Pour the prepared sauce into the hot pan. Bring to a simmer, stirring constantly, until the sauce slightly thickens (about 1-2 minutes).
- Return the cooked pork belly to the pan and toss gently to coat evenly with the sauce.
- Serve immediately with your desired accompaniments.
Notes
For extra crispiness, finish cooking in an air fryer at 400°F (200°C) for 5-7 minutes. Serve with steamed rice, stir-fried vegetables, or a sprinkle of sesame seeds and chopped scallions. You can also grill the pork belly for a smoky flavor.
