Ingredients
- 0.5 cup low-sodium soy sauce
- 1.5 cup water
- 0.25 cup brown sugar packed
- 2 tbsp rice vinegar
- 1 tbsp sesame oil
- 3 cloves garlic minced
- 1 tbsp fresh ginger grated
- 2 tbsp cornstarch
- 0.25 cup cold water for cornstarch slurry
Instructions
- In a medium saucepan, whisk together soy sauce, 1.5 cups water, brown sugar, rice vinegar, sesame oil, minced garlic, and grated ginger.
- In a small bowl, dissolve cornstarch in 0.25 cup cold water to create a slurry.
- Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring the sauce mixture to a gentle boil, stirring occasionally.
- Once boiling, reduce the heat to low and slowly whisk in the cornstarch slurry.
- Continue to simmer for 3 minutes, stirring constantly until the sauce thickens to your desired consistency.
- Remove from heat and use immediately or let it cool completely before transferring to an airtight container for storage in the refrigerator.
Notes
For a spicier kick, add a pinch of red pepper flakes. This sauce can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week. Great as a marinade for chicken, pork, or tofu too!
