Quick Steak Sandwich Recipe
This quick steak sandwich recipe features tender, seasoned steak slices piled high on a toasted roll with melted cheese and your favorite toppings, making for a satisfying and speedy dinner.
Ingredients
- 1 pound thinly sliced sirloin steak or ribeye cut into bite-sized pieces
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 4 hoagie rolls or sub buns split and lightly toasted
- 8 slices provolone cheese
- 1 medium onion thinly sliced (optional)
- 1 bell pepper any color thinly sliced (optional)
- 2 tablespoons butter for sautéing vegetables (optional)
Instructions
- Pat steak pieces dry with paper towels. In a medium bowl, toss steak with olive oil, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper until well coated.
- If using, heat butter in a large skillet or griddle over medium heat. Add sliced onion and bell pepper and cook until softened and slightly caramelized, about 5-7 minutes. Remove from skillet and set aside.
- Increase heat to medium-high. Add seasoned steak to the hot skillet in a single layer. Cook for 1-2 minutes per side until browned and cooked to your desired doneness. Avoid overcrowding the pan; cook in batches if necessary.
- Once steak is cooked, reduce heat to low. Divide the cooked steak among the four toasted hoagie roll bottoms. Top the steak with the sautéed onions and peppers (if using) and then place two slices of cheese over each portion.
- Cover the skillet for 1-2 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and gooey. You can also briefly place under a broiler to melt the cheese quickly.
- Place the top halves of the hoagie rolls over the melted cheese and steak. Serve immediately with your favorite sides.
Notes
For extra flavor, marinate the steak for 30 minutes in a mixture of soy sauce and Worcestershire sauce. Try different cheeses like provolone, cheddar, or Swiss. Serve with caramelized onions, sautéed mushrooms, or a drizzle of sriracha mayo for a kick.
