Ingredients

  • 4 fillets fresh salmon
  • 1/4 cup white miso paste
  • 2 tbsp low-sodium soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp mirin
  • 1 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1 clove garlic minced (optional)
  • 1 tsp grated fresh ginger (optional)

Instructions

  • Prepare the marinade: In a medium bowl, whisk together the white miso paste, soy sauce, mirin, sugar, sesame oil, and optional minced garlic and grated ginger until smooth.
  • Marinate the salmon: Place the salmon fillets in a shallow dish or a zip-top bag. Pour the marinade over the salmon, ensuring all sides are coated. Marinate in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes, but no longer than 2 hours to prevent the salmon from breaking down.
  • Preheat broiler: While the salmon marinates, preheat your oven broiler to high. Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil for easier cleanup.
  • Broil the salmon: Remove salmon from the marinade, letting any excess drip off. Place the fillets skin-side down on the prepared baking sheet. Broil for 6-8 minutes, or until the salmon is cooked through to your desired doneness (medium is typically ideal for flaky salmon). Do not flip the fillets.
  • Serve immediately: Transfer the cooked salmon to plates and serve with steamed rice and your favorite vegetables. Garnish with sesame seeds or chopped scallions if desired.

Notes

For an alternative, try adapting this recipe into air-fried miso salmon bites, perfect for rice bowls. Always opt for low-sodium soy sauce to control salt levels. Ensure salmon is cooked to a perfect medium for optimal flavor and texture. Garnish with sesame seeds and chopped scallions if desired.
