A delicious and speedy Korean ground beef and rice bowl, offering a perfect balance of savory and sweet flavors, ideal for a satisfying weeknight dinner.
Ingredients
- 1 pound ground beef lean
- 1/4 cup soy sauce low sodium
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar packed
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil toasted
- 2 cloves garlic minced
- 1 teaspoon fresh ginger grated
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes optional
- 2 cups cooked rice for serving
- 2 green onions sliced (for garnish)
- 1 teaspoon sesame seeds for garnish
Instructions
- In a large skillet, cook ground beef over medium-high heat until browned, breaking it apart as it cooks. Drain any excess fat.
- While the beef cooks, whisk together soy sauce, brown sugar, sesame oil, minced garlic, grated ginger, and red pepper flakes (if using) in a small bowl.
- Pour the sauce mixture over the cooked beef in the skillet. Stir well to combine.
- Bring the mixture to a simmer and cook for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce has thickened slightly and coated the beef.
- Serve the Korean beef mixture immediately over warm cooked rice.
- Garnish with sliced green onions and sesame seeds before serving.
Notes
For extra vegetables, add shredded carrots, broccoli florets, or bell pepper slices to the pan with the beef during the last 5 minutes of cooking. Adjust red pepper flakes to your spice preference. Serve with kimchi for an authentic Korean side.
