Pineapple Skin Tea: Refreshing Brew
This refreshing and healthy pineapple skin tea is an excellent way to utilize fruit scraps, reduce waste, and enjoy a delicious, nutrient-packed beverage. Infused with citrus, turmeric, and ginger, it's perfect for a wellness boost.
Ingredients
- 17 cups water
- 1 large pineapple peel and core (from a ripe pineapple)
- 2 oranges juiced
- 1 lemon juiced
- 2 tbsp turmeric freshly grated
- 3 tbsp ginger freshly grated
Instructions
- Thoroughly wash the pineapple. Peel the pineapple, remove the core, and cut the peel and core into smaller pieces. Set aside the edible fruit for other uses.
- In a large pot, combine the pineapple peel and core with 17 cups of water.
- Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat, then reduce heat to low, cover, and let it simmer for 30-40 minutes. This allows the flavors and nutrients to infuse into the water.
- Remove the pot from the heat and carefully strain the liquid through a fine-mesh sieve into a heatproof container, discarding the solids.
- Stir in the freshly squeezed orange juice, lemon juice, grated turmeric, and grated ginger into the strained tea.
- Taste and adjust flavors if needed. You can add a natural sweetener like honey or maple syrup if desired.
- Serve the pineapple skin tea warm or chilled. Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days.
Notes
Adjust sweetness with honey or maple syrup to taste. For a stronger flavor, you can simmer the pineapple peels and core longer. This tea can be enjoyed hot or cold. For added aroma, consider adding a few cinnamon sticks during simmering. Store any leftover tea in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days.
