Ingredients
- 6 ounce oil-packed tuna drained and flaked
- 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
- 1 tablespoon diced red onion optional
- 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard optional
- 0.25 teaspoon salt
- 0.125 teaspoon black pepper
- 4 slices sourdough bread
- 2 tablespoons butter softened
- 4 slices cheddar cheese or Swiss
Instructions
- In a medium bowl, combine the drained tuna, mayonnaise, diced red onion (if using), Dijon mustard (if using), salt, and pepper. Mix well.
- Butter one side of each slice of sourdough bread.
- Place two slices of bread, buttered-side down, in a non-stick skillet over medium heat.
- Top each bread slice with two slices of cheese, then evenly distribute the tuna mixture over the cheese.
- Place the remaining two slices of bread on top of the tuna mixture, buttered-side up.
- Cook for 3-4 minutes per side, or until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Remove from skillet, slice in half, and serve warm.
Notes
For extra crunch, add finely diced celery or red onion to the tuna mixture. Use good quality sourdough or country bread. A slice of tomato can be added before grilling for a fresh bite.
