Ingredients

  • 250 g halloumi cheese drained and sliced 1/2-inch thick
  • 1 tbsp olive oil for frying
  • 2 tbsp honey
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1/2 tsp red chili flakes or to taste
  • 1 tsp toasted sesame seeds optional
  • 1 tbsp fresh cilantro chopped

Instructions

  • Slice the halloumi cheese into 1/2-inch thick pieces. Pat them thoroughly dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture; this ensures crispiness.
  • Heat olive oil in a non-stick pan over medium-high heat until it shimmers.
  • Add halloumi slices to the hot pan in a single layer, making sure not to overcrowd. Fry for 2-3 minutes per side until they are deeply golden brown and crispy.
  • Transfer the fried halloumi to a wire rack or paper towels to drain any excess oil.
  • In a small saucepan, combine honey, soy sauce, and red chili flakes. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer over medium heat, stirring occasionally, for 2-3 minutes until the sauce slightly thickens and becomes glossy.
  • Return the fried halloumi to the saucepan with the glaze. Toss gently to coat all the halloumi pieces evenly in the sticky sauce.
  • Serve immediately, optionally garnished with toasted sesame seeds and fresh chopped cilantro.

Notes

Serve hot immediately after glazing for the best texture. Garnish with toasted sesame seeds and fresh chopped cilantro or green onions for extra flavor and visual appeal. Adjust the amount of red chili flakes to suit your spice preference. This dish pairs wonderfully with steamed rice or a fresh green salad.
