Ingredients

  • 1 cup milk any kind (dairy or non-dairy)
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground turmeric or 1 inch fresh grated turmeric
  • 0.25 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 0.125 teaspoon ground cardamom
  • 0.5 inch fresh ginger grated (optional)
  • 1 pinch black pepper freshly ground (crucial for turmeric absorption)
  • 1 teaspoon honey or maple syrup or to taste (optional)

Instructions

  • In a small saucepan, combine the milk, ground turmeric, ground cinnamon, and ground cardamom.
  • If using fresh turmeric and ginger, add them now. Add the crucial pinch of black pepper.
  • Whisk gently to combine the spices with the milk.
  • Heat over medium heat until warm and gently simmering, but do not boil. Stir occasionally.
  • Remove from heat, strain if desired for a smoother texture (especially if using fresh ginger/turmeric).
  • Stir in honey or maple syrup to taste, if using.
  • Pour into a mug and enjoy warm.

Notes

For a richer flavor, simmer the milk with spices for an extra few minutes. Adjust sweetener to taste. You can use any milk alternative like almond, coconut, or oat milk. Add a dash of vanilla extract for extra aroma.
