Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup gochujang (Korean chili paste)
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 teaspoon ginger grated
  • 2 tablespoons water (optional

Instructions

  • 1. In a small saucepan, combine the gochujang, honey, soy sauce, rice vinegar, brown sugar, sesame oil, minced garlic, and grated ginger.
  • 2. Place the saucepan over medium heat.
  • 3. Whisk the mixture continuously until all ingredients are well combined and the brown sugar has fully dissolved.
  • 4. Bring the sauce to a gentle simmer, stirring occasionally.
  • 5. Let it simmer for 5-7 minutes, or until the sauce slightly thickens to your desired consistency. If the sauce becomes too thick, you can add a tablespoon or two of water to thin it out.
  • 6. Remove the saucepan from the heat and let the gochujang sauce cool completely before serving or storing. The sauce will thicken further as it cools.

Notes

Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks. Adjust the spice level by increasing or decreasing the amount of gochujang. For a thicker sauce, simmer a bit longer; for a thinner sauce, add a tablespoon or two of water. This sauce is excellent as a marinade for chicken or pork, a dipping sauce for fried foods, or a base for stir-fries.
