Gochujang: Korean Sweet & Spicy Kick
A vibrant and versatile Korean dipping sauce, boasting the signature sweet and spicy notes of gochujang. This sauce is quick to prepare and perfect for grilled meats, vegetables, or as a delightful condiment for various dishes.
Ingredients
- 45 g gochujang Korean chili paste
- 15 ml soy sauce low sodium preferred
- 10 ml sesame oil toasted
- 15 g sugar granulated
- 5 ml rice vinegar optional
- 1 clove garlic minced
- 15 ml water or to desired consistency
Instructions
- 1. In a small bowl, combine gochujang, soy sauce, toasted sesame oil, sugar, rice vinegar (if using), and minced garlic.
- 2. Whisk all ingredients together until well combined and smooth.
- 3. Gradually add water, one teaspoon at a time, until the sauce reaches your desired consistency. It should be thick enough to cling to food but still pourable.
- 4. Taste and adjust seasonings as needed, adding more sugar for sweetness or gochujang for spice.
- 5. Serve immediately or store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week.
Notes
For a thicker sauce, use less water. Adjust sugar and gochujang to your preferred level of sweetness and spice. Add a pinch of toasted sesame seeds for extra texture and aroma.
