Ingredients

  • 1 bag tortilla chips
  • 0.5 lb ground beef lean
  • 1 tbsp taco seasoning
  • 0.5 cup water
  • 2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 0.5 cup salsa chopped
  • 0.25 cup red onion diced
  • 0.25 cup cilantro fresh

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Brown ground beef in a large skillet over medium heat, crumbling it as it cooks. Drain excess fat.
  • Stir in taco seasoning and water. Bring to a simmer and cook for 5-7 minutes, until liquid has mostly evaporated.
  • Spread tortilla chips in a single layer on a large, oven-safe platter or baking sheet.
  • Sprinkle half of the shredded cheese over the chips, then layer the seasoned ground beef.
  • Top with the remaining cheese.
  • Bake for 10-15 minutes, or until cheese is melted and bubbly.
  • Remove from oven and top with salsa, diced red onion, and fresh cilantro. Serve hot.

Notes

For a vegetarian option, substitute ground beef with seasoned black beans or lentils. Feel free to add jalapeños for a spicy kick or a dollop of sour cream and guacamole for extra creaminess. Serve immediately for best results!
