Delight your taste buds with these savory pork and cabbage dumplings, inspired by classic Asian cuisine. Perfect for a unique and flavorful morning meal, they can be steamed or pan-fried to golden perfection.
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground pork lean
- 2 cups napa cabbage finely chopped
- 3 cloves garlic minced
- 1 inch ginger grated
- 2 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tbsp sesame oil
- 1 tsp white pepper
- 1 package round dumpling wrappers about 40-50 wrappers
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil for pan-frying (optional)
- cup water for steaming
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine ground pork, chopped napa cabbage, minced garlic, grated ginger, soy sauce, sesame oil, and white pepper. Mix well until all ingredients are evenly distributed.
- Place about one teaspoon of the pork filling in the center of a dumpling wrapper. Moisten the edges of the wrapper with a little water.
- Fold the wrapper in half to create a half-moon shape, pressing the edges together to seal. You can create small pleats along the sealed edge for a traditional look.
- Repeat with the remaining filling and wrappers.
- To steam: Arrange dumplings in a steamer basket lined with parchment paper, ensuring they don't touch. Steam for 8-10 minutes, or until cooked through.
- To pan-fry: Heat vegetable oil in a large non-stick skillet over medium-high heat. Place dumplings in a single layer, flat side down, and cook for 2-3 minutes until bottoms are golden brown.
- Add about 1/2 cup of water to the skillet, cover immediately, and reduce heat to medium-low. Steam for 5-7 minutes, or until water has evaporated and dumplings are cooked through.
- Remove from skillet and serve immediately with dipping sauce.
Notes
Serve with a dipping sauce made from soy sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, and a pinch of chili flakes. For a vegetarian option, replace pork with finely minced mushrooms and tofu. You can prepare the filling ahead of time and assemble closer to cooking.
