A sweet, smoky barbecue sauce with a kick of heat and the bright, fruity essence of fresh peaches. Perfect for grilling or dipping.
Ingredients
- 2 cups sliced fresh or frozen peaches peeled and pitted
- 1/2 cup chopped onion
- 2 cloves minced garlic
- 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
- 1/4 cup brown sugar packed
- 1/4 cup ketchup
- 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tbsp hot sauce or to taste
- 1 tsp smoked paprika
- 1/2 tsp chili powder
- 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper optional
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
Instructions
- In a medium saucepan, combine peaches, onion, and garlic. Bring to a simmer over medium heat.
- Add apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, hot sauce, smoked paprika, chili powder, cayenne pepper (if using), salt, and black pepper. Stir well.
- Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce heat to low and simmer, uncovered, for 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the peaches are very soft and the sauce has thickened.
- Carefully transfer the sauce to a blender or use an immersion blender to blend until smooth. For a chunkier sauce, blend less. For a very smooth sauce, you can pass it through a fine-mesh sieve.
- Return the sauce to the saucepan and simmer for another 5-10 minutes, or until it reaches your desired consistency. Taste and adjust seasonings as needed.
- Allow to cool completely before storing in an airtight jar in the refrigerator.
Notes
For a smoother sauce, blend longer. Adjust chili flakes or hot sauce to your preferred spice level. Can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks. Great with chicken, pork, or even as a glaze for grilled vegetables.
