Ingredients

  • 2 tsp hojicha powder
  • 60 ml hot water just off boil
  • 1 cup ice
  • 200 ml cold milk dairy or non-dairy
  • 1 tbsp sweetener optional

Instructions

  • Place hojicha powder in a mug or traditional matcha bowl.
  • Add the hot water (around 80-90°C or 175-195°F) to the hojicha powder.
  • Whisk vigorously until the powder is fully dissolved and smooth, with a light frothy layer on top. If you have a bamboo whisk, use it for optimal blending.
  • Fill a tall glass with ice cubes.
  • Pour the whisked hojicha mixture over the ice.
  • Add your preferred cold milk and sweetener (if using).
  • Stir well to combine all ingredients.
  • Enjoy your refreshing homemade iced hojicha latte immediately!

Notes

For the best texture, a bamboo whisk (chasen) is recommended to blend the hojicha powder without clumps. Adjust sweetener and milk type to your preference. Oat milk or almond milk are great dairy-free options. You can also add a pinch of cinnamon or vanilla extract for extra flavor.
