Easy Asian Broccoli Sauce
A simple and flavorful Asian-inspired sauce, perfect for coating steamed or stir-fried broccoli. This quick recipe brings together the aromatic notes of ginger and garlic with the savory depth of soy sauce, creating a versatile dressing for your favorite vegetables.
Ingredients
- 0.5 cup water
- 0.25 cup soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1 teaspoon oil for cooking
- 1 inch piece fresh ginger minced
- 2 cloves garlic minced
- 1 head broccoli cut into florets
Instructions
- In a small bowl, whisk together water, soy sauce, sugar, and cornstarch until smooth and set aside.
- Mince the fresh ginger and garlic.
- Cook the broccoli florets to your preferred tenderness, either by steaming, blanching, or stir-frying, and set aside.
- Heat the oil in a pan or wok over medium heat. Add the minced ginger and garlic and sauté for 30-60 seconds until fragrant, being careful not to burn them.
- Pour the reserved sauce mixture into the pan. Stir continuously as the sauce heats and thickens, about 1-2 minutes, until it reaches a glossy consistency.
- Add the cooked broccoli florets to the pan and toss gently to coat them evenly with the sauce.
- Serve immediately as a side dish or over rice.
Notes
For an extra kick, add a pinch of red pepper flakes with the ginger and garlic. A splash of rice vinegar or sesame oil at the very end can enhance the flavor further. This sauce is also great with other vegetables like snap peas, green beans, or even chicken.
