Easy 20-Min Tomato Pasta
A simple and delicious tomato pasta dish that comes together in just 20 minutes, perfect for a quick and satisfying weeknight dinner.
Ingredients
- 8 ounce spaghetti or your favorite pasta
- 2 tablespoon olive oil
- 3 clove garlic minced
- 1 28-ounce can crushed tomatoes
- 0.5 teaspoon dried oregano
- 0.25 teaspoon salt or to taste
- 0.125 teaspoon black pepper or to taste
- 0.25 cup fresh basil chopped (optional)
Instructions
- Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add pasta and cook according to package directions until al dente.
- While pasta cooks, heat olive oil in a large skillet or pot over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté for 1 minute until fragrant, being careful not to burn it.
- Pour in the crushed tomatoes, add dried oregano, salt, and pepper. Stir well and bring to a simmer. Cook for 10-12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens slightly.
- Once pasta is cooked, drain it, reserving about 1/2 cup of pasta water.
- Add the drained pasta directly to the skillet with the tomato sauce. Toss to coat evenly. If the sauce is too thick, add a splash of reserved pasta water until desired consistency is reached.
- Stir in fresh chopped basil, if using. Serve immediately with a sprinkle of grated Parmesan cheese, if desired.
Notes
For extra flavor, add a pinch of red pepper flakes with the garlic. Fresh basil or parsley can be stirred in at the end for a bright finish. Serve with grated Parmesan cheese.
