Ingredients
- 1.5 cup all-purpose flour
- 0.5 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 0.5 tsp baking soda
- 0.5 tsp ground cinnamon
- 0.25 tsp ground nutmeg
- 0.25 tsp salt
- 0.5 cup pumpkin puree canned
- 0.25 cup milk
- 1 large egg lightly beaten
- 2 tbsp melted butter unsalted
- 4 cups vegetable oil for frying (or as needed)
- 0.0 tbsp Cinnamon Sugar Coating:
- 0.5 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tbsp ground cinnamon
Instructions
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
- In a separate medium bowl, combine pumpkin puree, milk, egg, and melted butter.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined, forming a wet dough. Do not overmix. Cover the bowl with cling film and refrigerate for 15-20 minutes to firm up slightly.
- While the dough chills, heat vegetable oil in a large heavy-bottomed pot or Dutch oven over medium heat to 350°F (175°C).
- Prepare the cinnamon sugar coating: In a shallow bowl, combine 1/2 cup granulated sugar and 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon. Set aside.
- Using a small spoon or a mini ice cream scoop, carefully drop spoonfuls of dough into the hot oil, frying in batches to avoid overcrowding.
- Cook for 2-3 minutes, turning occasionally, until golden brown and cooked through.
- Using a slotted spoon, remove the doughnut holes and transfer them to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
- While still warm, toss the doughnut holes in the cinnamon sugar mixture until evenly coated.
- Serve immediately and enjoy your homemade Spiced Pumpkin Doughnut Holes!
Notes
For a healthier option, bake the doughnut holes at 375°F (190°C) for 10-12 minutes until golden. You can also drizzle them with a simple glaze made from powdered sugar and milk instead of cinnamon sugar.
