Ingredients
- 3 large ripe avocados mashed
- 1/2 cup red onion finely diced
- 1 medium jalapeño pepper finely minced (seeds optional)
- 1/4 cup fresh cilantro chopped
- 2 tablespoons fresh lime juice
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 large roma tomato diced (optional)
Instructions
- Halve the avocados, remove the pits, and scoop the flesh into a medium bowl.
- Using a fork or potato masher, roughly mash the avocados to your desired consistency.
- Add the diced red onion, minced jalapeño, chopped cilantro, and lime juice to the bowl.
- Season with salt and black pepper. Stir gently to combine all ingredients.
- If using, gently fold in the diced Roma tomato.
- Taste and adjust seasonings as needed, adding more salt, lime juice, or jalapeño for personal preference.
- Serve immediately with tortilla chips, as a side for tacos, or spread on toast.

Always use ripe avocados; they should yield gently to pressure. For a smoother texture, mash more thoroughly. For extra heat, include the jalapeño seeds. To prevent browning if making ahead, press plastic wrap directly onto the surface of the guacamole and refrigerate.
