Switchel: The Original Hydrator
A classic American colonial drink, Switchel is a refreshing blend of water, apple cider vinegar, ginger, and a touch of sweetness. Perfect for natural hydration and a historical taste.
Ingredients
- 4 cup water
- 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
- 2 inch fresh ginger grated or thinly sliced
- 1/4 cup maple syrup or honey
- 1 lemon juiced optional
Instructions
- 1. Combine water, apple cider vinegar, grated ginger, and maple syrup (or honey) in a large pitcher or jar.
- 2. Stir well until the sweetener is fully dissolved.
- 3. For best flavor, let the mixture chill in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes, or up to several hours, allowing the ginger flavors to infuse.
- 4. Strain out the ginger pieces before serving, if desired, or leave them in for extra zing.
- 5. Add fresh lemon juice, if using, and stir again.
- 6. Serve chilled over ice.
Notes
Adjust the amount of sweetener and ginger to your taste. For an extra citrusy kick, add a squeeze of fresh lemon or lime juice. Serve chilled over ice. You can also add a pinch of cayenne pepper for an extra metabolic boost.
