Ingredients

  • 1 package dumpling wrappers store-bought frozen
  • 0.5 pound ground pork
  • 1 cup napa cabbage finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger grated
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 0.25 teaspoon white pepper
  • 0.25 cup fresh coriander chopped
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil for cooking
  • 0.5 cup water for steaming

Instructions

  • In a large bowl, combine ground pork, chopped napa cabbage, grated ginger, minced garlic, soy sauce, sesame oil, white pepper, and 0.25 cup chopped fresh coriander. Mix well until all ingredients are evenly distributed.
  • Take one dumpling wrapper and place about 1 teaspoon of the filling in the center. Moisten the edges of the wrapper with water using your finger.
  • Fold the wrapper in half to create a half-moon shape. Pinch the edges together tightly to seal, creating small pleats for a classic dumpling look if desired.
  • Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large non-stick skillet over medium-high heat. Place the dumplings in a single layer, ensuring they don't touch.
  • Cook for 2-3 minutes until the bottoms are golden brown. Carefully pour 0.5 cup of water into the skillet. Immediately cover with a lid.
  • Reduce heat to medium-low and steam for 5-7 minutes, or until the water has evaporated and the pork is cooked through (internal temperature of 160°F or 71°C).
  • Remove the lid and increase heat to medium-high for 1 minute to crisp up the bottoms again if needed. Transfer the cooked dumplings to a serving plate.
  • Garnish with extra fresh coriander and serve immediately with your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

For variations, try ground chicken or shrimp. Serve with a simple dipping sauce: 2 tbsp soy sauce, 1 tsp rice vinegar, a dash of sesame oil, and a pinch of chili flakes. Dumplings can be frozen raw on a floured baking sheet then transferred to a freezer bag for later. Cook from frozen, adding a few extra minutes to steaming time.
