Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef lean
  • 1 small onion finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 2 tbsp chili powder
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 0.5 tsp paprika
  • 0.25 tsp dried oregano
  • 0.5 tsp salt
  • 0.25 tsp black pepper
  • 0.5 cup water or beef broth

Instructions

  • 1. Brown ground beef in a large skillet over medium-high heat, breaking it apart with a spoon. Drain any excess fat. 2. Add chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet with the beef. Cook for 3-5 minutes, or until the onion is softened and translucent. 3. Stir in the chili powder, cumin, paprika, dried oregano, salt, and black pepper. Cook for 1 minute more, stirring constantly, to toast the spices and release their aroma. 4. Pour in the water or beef broth, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the pan to incorporate flavor. 5. Bring the mixture to a simmer and cook for 5-7 minutes, or until most of the liquid has evaporated and the beef is thoroughly coated with the seasonings. 6. Taste and adjust seasonings as needed. Keep warm until ready to serve as part of your taco bar.

Notes

For a spicier kick, add a pinch of cayenne pepper or extra chili powder. This seasoned beef can be prepared a day in advance and gently reheated on the stovetop or in a slow cooker. Serve warm with all your favorite taco bar toppings.
