Ingredients
  

  • 1 block extra-firm tofu pressed well
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil or other neutral oil
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon black pepper
  • 0.5 teaspoon garlic powder optional

  • Press the Tofu: If using extra-firm tofu, press it for at least 15-30 minutes to remove excess water. This is crucial for crispiness. You can use a tofu press or wrap the block in paper towels, place it between two plates, and weigh it down with something heavy.
  • Cut the Tofu: Once pressed, cut the tofu into 1-inch cubes.
  • Toss with Oil: In a medium bowl, gently toss the tofu cubes with olive oil until lightly coated.
  • Coat with Cornstarch & Seasonings: Add the cornstarch, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder (if using) to the bowl. Toss again until all tofu cubes are evenly coated, shaking off any visible excess cornstarch.
  • Preheat Air Fryer: Preheat your air fryer to 400°F (200°C) for 5 minutes.
  • Air Fry the Tofu: Arrange the coated tofu cubes in a single layer in the air fryer basket, ensuring not to overcrowd it. Cook in batches if necessary.
  • Cook Until Crispy: Air fry for 18-25 minutes, shaking the basket every 5-7 minutes to ensure even browning and crispiness. The tofu should be golden brown and crunchy on the outside.
  • Serve: Serve immediately as a side, in stir-fries, salads, or bowls.

Notes

For extra flavor, marinate the tofu cubes for at least 30 minutes before coating and air frying. Try tossing the crispy tofu with a drizzle of soy sauce, sriracha, or a sweet chili glaze after cooking. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
