Ingredients

  • 3 cans tinned fish e.g.
  • 1 cup assorted pickled vegetables e.g.
  • 0.5 cup cream cheese softened
  • 2 tablespoons fresh dill finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1 pinch black pepper
  • 1 loaf crusty bread sliced
  • 1 package crackers
  • 1 lemon wedged for serving
  • 2 tablespoons capers drained (optional)

Instructions

  • Prepare the Herbed Cream Cheese Dip: In a small bowl, combine softened cream cheese, chopped fresh dill, lemon juice, salt, and pepper. Mix until smooth. Taste and adjust seasoning as needed.
  • Arrange the Tinned Fish: Open and drain the tinned fish. Artfully arrange the different varieties of tinned fish on a large serving board or platter.
  • Add the Accompaniments: Place small bowls of pickled vegetables, capers (if using), and the herbed cream cheese dip on the board. Scatter lemon wedges around.
  • Serve with Bread and Crackers: Arrange slices of crusty bread and various crackers around the tinned fish and accompaniments. Present the board immediately and let guests assemble their own delicious bites.

Notes

Experiment with different types of tinned fish such as smoked trout, anchovies, or even squid in ink for variety. For the dip, try adding other fresh herbs like chives or parsley. Offer gluten-free crackers or bread alternatives. This board is best assembled just before serving to maintain freshness, though the dip can be made a day in advance.
