A beloved Filipino stir-fried noodle dish, Pancit Canton, gets a modern 'swicy' (sweet and spicy) upgrade. Featuring tender canton noodles, savory ground pork, crisp vegetables, and a unique sauce that balances sweetness with a fiery kick, this recipe is a delicious and quick meal inspired by viral food trends.
Ingredients
- 250 g Pancit Canton noodles
- 200 g ground pork
- 1 tbsp cooking oil
- 3 cloves garlic minced
- 1/2 cup onion sliced thinly
- 1 cup carrots julienned
- 1 cup cabbage shredded
- 1/2 cup chicken broth
- 3 tbsp soy sauce for the Swicy Sauce
- 2 tbsp oyster sauce for the Swicy Sauce
- 1 tbsp brown sugar for the Swicy Sauce
- 1 tbsp sriracha or to taste
- 1 tsp sesame oil for the Swicy Sauce
- 1/4 tsp black pepper for the Swicy Sauce
- 1 tbsp cornstarch mixed with 2 tbsp water (slurry)
Instructions
- In a small bowl, whisk together all 'Swicy Sauce' ingredients (soy sauce, oyster sauce, brown sugar, sriracha, sesame oil, black pepper). Set aside.
- Cook Pancit Canton noodles according to package directions until al dente. Drain thoroughly and set aside.
- Heat cooking oil in a large wok or skillet over medium-high heat. Add ground pork and cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until browned. Drain any excess fat.
- Add minced garlic and sliced onion to the wok. Sauté until fragrant, about 1-2 minutes.
- Stir in julienned carrots and shredded cabbage. Cook for 2-3 minutes until slightly tender-crisp.
- Pour in the chicken broth and the prepared 'Swicy Sauce'. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer.
- Add the cooked noodles to the wok. Toss gently to combine all ingredients and coat the noodles evenly with the sauce.
- Stir the cornstarch slurry (cornstarch mixed with 2 tbsp water) into the simmering sauce. Cook for another 1-2 minutes, stirring continuously, until the sauce thickens slightly and coats the noodles.
- Serve immediately, garnished with fresh green onions and calamansi or lime wedges if desired.
Notes
Feel free to substitute ground pork with ground chicken or beef. Adjust the sriracha or chili flakes to your preferred spice level. Add extra vegetables like bell peppers, snow peas, or snap peas for more nutrition. Garnish with calamansi or lime wedges for a fresh zest.
