Gochujang Butter Pasta Recipe
A vibrant and creamy pasta dish that blends the bold, sweet, and spicy flavors of Korean gochujang with rich butter, creating a delightful fusion experience.
Ingredients
- 200 g spaghetti or linguine
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter
- 2 cloves garlic minced
- 1 tbsp gochujang Korean chili paste (adjust to taste)
- 1 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tsp honey or maple syrup
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese grated (plus more for garnish)
- 2 tbsp pasta water reserved
- green onions sliced for garnish
- sesame seeds toasted for garnish
Instructions
- Cook pasta according to package directions until al dente. Reserve about 1/2 cup of pasta water before draining.
- While pasta cooks, melt butter in a large skillet or pan over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté for 1 minute until fragrant.
- Stir in gochujang, soy sauce, and honey (or maple syrup). Cook for 1-2 minutes, stirring constantly, to combine and slightly thicken.
- Pour in the heavy cream and bring to a gentle simmer. Cook for another 2-3 minutes, stirring, until the sauce slightly thickens.
- Add the cooked pasta and grated Parmesan cheese to the skillet. Toss to coat evenly.
- If the sauce is too thick, add reserved pasta water, one tablespoon at a time, until it reaches your desired consistency.
- Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
- Serve immediately, garnished with sliced green onions and toasted sesame seeds.
Notes
For a richer sauce, reserve more pasta water and add gradually until desired consistency. Adjust gochujang to control spice level. Add cooked protein like chicken or shrimp for a heartier meal. Garnish with toasted sesame seeds for extra crunch.
