Ingredients

  • 1 lb beef sirloin thinly sliced against the grain
  • 0.5 cup soy sauce low sodium
  • 0.25 cup brown sugar packed
  • 2 tbsp sesame oil
  • 4 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 inch ginger grated
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tsp black pepper freshly ground
  • 0.5 tsp red pepper flakes optional
  • 4 cups cooked white rice for serving
  • 2 tbsp sesame seeds for garnish
  • 2 green onions sliced for garnish

Instructions

  • In a medium bowl, whisk together soy sauce, brown sugar, sesame oil, minced garlic, grated ginger, rice vinegar, black pepper, and red pepper flakes (if using).
  • Add the thinly sliced beef to the marinade. Toss to coat evenly. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, or up to 4 hours for deeper flavor.
  • Heat 1 tablespoon of cooking oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the marinated beef in a single layer, working in batches if necessary to avoid overcrowding.
  • Cook for 2-3 minutes per side, or until browned and cooked through. Avoid overcooking to keep the beef tender.
  • Serve the cooked Korean BBQ beef hot over individual bowls of cooked white rice.
  • Garnish with toasted sesame seeds and sliced green onions before serving.

Notes

For a slow cooker version, marinate beef overnight, then cook on low for 4-6 hours or high for 2-3 hours until tender. Shred or slice beef before serving. Serve with kimchi, a fried egg, or steamed vegetables for added nutrition. Adjust gochujang or red pepper flakes for desired spice level.
