A simple yet elegant tapa highlighting the rich flavors of premium Spanish or Portuguese tinned sardines on crusty bread.
Ingredients
- 1 can premium tinned sardines in olive oil
- 2 slices crusty bread sliced
- 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
- 1 clove garlic halved
- 1 tablespoon fresh parsley chopped
- 1 slice lemon for garnish
- pinch of sea salt optional
- pinch of black pepper optional
Instructions
- Lightly toast the crusty bread slices until golden.
- While bread is toasting, open the can of premium tinned sardines. Reserve a little of the olive oil from the tin.
- Rub the halved garlic clove lightly over the toasted bread slices.
- Drizzle a little fresh extra virgin olive oil and some of the reserved olive oil from the tin over the bread.
- Carefully arrange the sardines from the tin onto the toasted bread slices.
- Garnish with fresh chopped parsley and a lemon slice. Season with a pinch of sea salt and black pepper if desired. Serve immediately.
Notes
Experiment with different types of tinned fish like mackerel or tuna. A sprinkle of paprika or chopped chili can add a kick. Serve immediately. For an extra touch, drizzle with high-quality balsamic glaze.
