Easy Gochujang Sauce
A versatile sweet and spicy Korean-inspired sauce that effortlessly elevates any dish, perfect for marinating, dipping, or enhancing stir-fries.
Ingredients
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter
- 2 cloves garlic minced
- 1 scallion thinly sliced white and light green parts
- 3 tbsp gochujang Korean chili paste
- 1 tbsp rice vinegar
- 2 tbsp honey or maple syrup
- 0.5 tsp salt to taste
- 0.25 cup water or low-sodium broth to thin
Instructions
- Melt the butter in a small saucepan over low to medium heat.
- Add the minced garlic and thinly sliced scallion to the pan and sauté until softened and fragrant, about 2-3 minutes, being careful not to brown the garlic.
- Stir in the gochujang, rice vinegar, honey, and salt. Whisk everything together until well combined and smooth.
- Gradually add the water or broth, stirring constantly, until the sauce reaches your desired consistency. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer.
- Continue to simmer for 3-5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce slightly thickens. Taste and adjust seasonings as needed.
- Remove from heat and let cool slightly before serving. This sauce can be served warm or at room temperature.
Notes
For a thicker sauce, reduce the amount of water/broth or simmer longer. Add a pinch of sesame oil at the end for extra flavor. This sauce stores well in the refrigerator for up to a week. Adjust honey for more sweetness or gochujang for extra heat.
